Some of the Points Tom and Craig Discussed

EHR Implementation

• There is $19 billion in the stimulus set aside for healthcare IT, including electronic health records. And there is incentive for hospitals and doctors and healthcare management facilities to act sooner rather than later, as the money available to modernize their systems diminishes over time.
• These systems can make our healthcare faster and more accurate, leading to better outcomes for patients. The way, for instance, hospitals will stay competitive is through these upgrades that simply lead to better efficiency, while at the same time attracting the best young doctors who want to work in a leading-edge environment.
Mergers & Acquisitions
• Particularly for banks, there is a huge cost savings for doing an M&A right with regard to IT – you can better streamline operations limiting any disruption in your systems
• If an M&A is executed poorly and the systems have a lot of down time or dysfunction, there can be a huge loss of customers.
• When Wachovia acquired Core States, it was bumpy ride – systems were disrupted, and customers left the bank in droves.
